Facility Case Study - Cedar Bluff Racquet Club

Located in Knoxville, Tennessee, Cedar Bluff Racquet Club opened to the public in 1979 and since then had held rank as one of the South's premier tennis facilities, with 10 indoor courts, 5 outdoor hard courts, and 9 outdoor clay courts.

Sports Interiors initially began working with the Cedar Bluff Racquet Club on their recently built pickleball facility. The Sports Interiors Lighting System was chosen for the new facility after Cedar Bluff Management viewed the pickleball facilities at:

Grand Rapids Racquet & Fitness in Michigan

Glenbrook Paddle Club in Chicago

The Sports Interiors LED Lighting System was installed in both of these pickleball facilities. Following a successful installation of our LED System at Cedar Bluff’s new pickleball facility, with light levels exceeding the ownership's expectations, they asked us to install our indirect LED Lighting System over all 10 of the clubs indoor tennis courts.

The Cedar Bluff Racquet Club is a very busy facility and so access to tennis court space during the day was a challenge. Our crews needed to work at night and be flexible with the daily working schedule in order to move most efficiently and minimize disruption to facility operations. Prior to the installation beginning, we coordinated times and windows of open access to the courts to ensure that our crews could be the most efficient and effective with their time to complete the installation.

The work included:

  • Removal of the existing unistrut system

  • Safe disposal of the old lighting

  • Installed all new piping

  • Installation of the Sports Interiors LED Lighting System

As part of the design phase for the light fixture locations, our team needed to be cautious of the club’s existing skylights and how they could potentially impact or disrupt the light levels from our system. Following multiple site visits and careful measurements, we successfully installed a system that achieved dramatically improved light levels with little to no disruption to the clubs activities.

As an added piece of work, we reconfigured the club’s old electrical system and provided necessary modifications and updates to ensure safety and efficiency of their system moving forward.

Next, we hope to return to install our highly reflective and durable Liner System over all 10 of the club’s indoor courts to further improve both the light levels and the aesthetic appearance of the indoor court space.
