Facility Case Study - USTA National Tennis Center
The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is a stadium complex within Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York. It has been the home of the US Open, played every year in August and September, since 1978 and is operated by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
In 2006, work began on a 245,000-square-foot, multi-purpose tennis pavilion which included:
12 indoor tennis courts
classrooms
fitness facilities
hospitality center
museum
food commissary
Due to the performance and feedback from indoor tennis facilities across the country, Sports Interiors was tapped to implement its highly reflective and durable Liner System to the ceiling area of the 12 indoor tennis courts to help increase light levels and provide an impressive indoor tennis playing experience.
In 2017, the USTA asked Sports Interiors to return and implement its custom LED Lighting System as they were looking to further increase light levels, reduce energy and maintenance costs, and ultimately create one of the best indoor tennis facilities in the world. Light levels prior the LED installation averaged around 80 foot candles while after the installation, they averaged over 120 foot candles.
Sports Interiors has the experience working with some of the most high profile indoor tennis facilities in the world, helping to improve the indoor tennis playing experience. Reach out to us if you have any questions or would like to talk about your indoor tennis court area.
