Sports Interiors was selected by the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, VA, to install our indirect LED Lighting system over all 12 of the club’s indoor tennis courts.
The Club is home to the University of Virginia men's and women's tennis programs that are both consistently ranked among the best teams in the country. The men's program has won the NCAA Championship four times and the ITA National Team Indoor Championship six times. For the women's team notable alumni Danielle Collins won the NCAA Singles Championship in 2014 and 2016 and has gone on to have a strong professional career with many players following in her footsteps. Both teams compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
In addition to hosting college tennis matches, the facilityalso hosts some of the world's best women from the WTA tour each spring. With the Club hosting such high level tennis events, the facility was looking to increase their light levels and this was why they turned to Sports Interiors for the project.
Another deciding factor was our financing package, which presented an opportunity for the facility to be at about a break-even from a monthly perspective rather than paying for the lighting with one large check. The combination of the energy and maintenance savings per month was about equal to what monthly finance payments were, creating a no-brainer for the Club to move forward with installing a proven LED Lighting System.
Regarding the actual implementation, our team was tasked with removing the existing light fixtures, safely and securely disposing of the old system, and installing our indirect system across all of the club’s indoor tennis courts. Our installation coincided with a court resurfacing project the facility was doing in parallel to our work. We coordinated schedules and timelines with both the facility, the court resurfacing group, and the club members to ensure we were providing everyone with what they needed to keep the club open and allowing for tennis to continue during our work.
Light levels increased from an average of 68 at the start of the project to an average of 102 once our LED system was installed meaning that the light levels increased by an average of 50% across all 12 courts.
Jonathan Sarosiek, Director of Tennis & Pickleball, commented, "We are very pleased with the quality of the lights & have been receiving a bunch of positive feedback from members, guests, and fellow team members.”
